Beatles Childhood Homes

There aren’t many bands whose childhood homes could become the subject of intense and enduring curiosity, but then there aren’t many bands like the Beatles. Hardcore fans of the fab four will be enthralled by the sight of John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s childhood homes. Purchase a ticket to ride and you can visit two houses with a very special history: ‘Mendips’ and 20 Forthlin Road, both in Liverpool. It was here that the Beatles’ frontmen grew up and first began making music together. Tickets for the unusual tour are available from the National Trust website. As you tour the famous homes, you’ll learn a wealth of fascinating facts about John Lennon and Paul McCartney. If you’ve ever wanted to sit on Paul’s sofa or trudge up John’s path as if you were about to audition for the nascent Beatles, this is the tour for you. No band in rock history has struck a chord with so many like the Beatles, a quartet forever synonymous with the city of Liverpool. The Beatles’ fans are truly global, with a strong Asian fanbase particularly enamoured with the ‘60s stalwarts. For many of the band’s devotees, touring the Beatles’ childhood is something of a pilgrimage. The tales you’ll hear as you peruse these homes that have been frozen in time will fire your imagination. Gaze out of John and Paul’s bedroom windows and imagine the destiny that awaited them, one which the precocious pair could have had no inkling of. Learn about the singalongs performed by Paul’s family in front of the piano in the parlour; immerse yourself in the Liverpool of the 1950s, evocatively brought to life by your Beatles-mad tour guides. After touring the two properties, you’ll want to go home and listen to your early Beatles albums all over again. They don’t make bands like this any more.

The house seems unassuming but has all the history there. Not much more than to take a photo and move on. Tours are hard to get.
